Ludvin Ramos-Cervantes, 19, of Yonkers, was convicted on Thursday, March 13 in the shooting death of 51-year-old Francisco Gordillo in February 2024, the Westchester County DA's Office said.
The incident occurred on Feb. 26, 2024, at around 4:45 a.m. Ramos-Cervantes had been a passenger in Gordillo’s vehicle, as he was driving him home after a night of drinking.
After arriving, Ramos-Cervantes briefly went inside his apartment and returned to the car with a .45 caliber pistol. Without warning, he wrapped his arm around Gordillo and shot him in the head. Gordillo was pronounced dead at the scene after being found by police just before 5 a.m.
Initially, Ramos-Cervantes claimed that Gordillo had died by suicide. He later changed his story, saying the gun discharged by accident.
Ramos-Cervantes now faces 5 to 15 years in prison for the charge of second-degree manslaughter and up to 15 years for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, April 25.
